Cricket Fiji for the first time in its history hosted the International Cricket Council (ICC) T20 World Cup Trophy Tour driven by Nissan from 5 – 6 September 2022. Fiji is one of the 13 selected countries from 4 continents to host the Trophy in the lead up to the World Cup in Australia from 16 October to 13 November 2022. Fiji is the only associate cricket member from the Pacific to host the trophy tour apart from Vanuatu who also hosted the trophy as part of its hosting right to the ICC Men’s T20 world Cup EAP Qualifier.
The trophy tour to Fiji was accompanied by Mr. Ross Taylor the former New Zealand (Black Caps) Captain, ICC Ambassador and also a legend of the game. The hosting of the World Cup trophy tour was an opportunity for Cricket Fiji to use this major event to promote cricket, increase awareness and leave a lasting legacy for cricket in the country.
The World Cup Trophy was welcomed by the Prime Minister Hon. Voreqe Bainimarama at the Grand Pacific Hotel. The PM in his speech thanked the ICC for this opportunity in selecting Fiji to host as it also promoted the sport which had its roots leading back to the colonial era.
