Fijian Under 19 all rounder Sunia Yalimaiwai was chosen by the organises of the Under 19 EAP world cup qualifier to be the “Player of the Tournament” in Darwin. He was gifted with a Kookabara signed Bat by the Australian cricket team.

Mr. Yalimaiwai was very impresive with both bat and ball for team Fiji and proved to be a handful for the opposition with his off cutters and variations in pace and length which made him the most economical bowler of the tournament.

Mr. Yalimaiwai hails from the Island of Moce in the Lau group, an Island that has produced some of the finest cricketers past and present. As elaborated by the Under 19 coach [Iniasi Cakacaka] who happens to hail also from Moce, “Sunia is playing above his age group, and this is testament to the development of cricket from the Islands”.

Mr. Yalimaiwai caught the eyes of the selectors during the Easter Cricket Championship this year in April where he was playing for the Moce Senior Team as a strike bowler, and also proved to be handy with the bat.

He is one of three players chosen from the Maritime Associations to join the under 19 team that had been selected from the Fiji Secondary Schools Cricket Competition. For now, Mr. Yalimaiwai intends to continue his cricket carrer in Suva to further improve his game and may be one day represent the senior national team.
