Fiji’s national women’s cricket team returned home today after securing third place in the Pacific-France T20i Women’s Cricket Championship which was held from 10–14 March in Noumea, New Caledonia. The tournament was won by Samoa after four days of intense and competitive cricket, highlighting the growing strength of women’s cricket in the Pacific.
Entering the tournament as the lowest-globally ranked team, Fiji defied expectations by defeating France twice, a team ranked 37 places higher. Their final victory over France in the third-place play-off was a testament to the team’s resilience and determination.
Led by captain Ilisapeci Waqavakatoga, the squad included standout players such as Melaia Biu, Karalaini Vakuruivalu, Sulia Vuni, Ana Gonerara and 2024 Fiji Sportswoman nominee Mele Waqanisau. The team showcased remarkable talent throughout the competition gaining valuable international experience against strong opposition.
Beyond the competition, the Pacific-France T20i Championship played a crucial role in strengthening cricketing ties between participating nations across the region. We acknowledge the support of France Cricket for championing Pacific women’s cricket by hosting this inaugural event.
This tournament also served as an important build-up for Fiji ahead of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup EAP Qualifier, which will be hosted in Suva in September 2025.
