The two umpire tutors from Cricket Fiji, Tomasi Nawaciono and Ruci Kaiwai commenced the two-day ICC Level 1 umpire course today. The primary objective of this program is to provide participants with the necessary skills and accreditation to become an ICC Level 1 umpire. The attendees are representatives from Cricket Fiji’s affiliated Associations who are currently in Suva for the Annual National Easter Cup tournament. These individuals are already actively officiating within their local Association leagues and are eager to enhance their understanding of professional game management.
The course has a total of 23 participants, including Sajeewa Liyanagi from the Solomon Islands. Originally from Sri Lanka, Sajeewa, now based in the Solomon Islands, had completed the online prerequisite course and is now attending the two-day in-person session to fulfill the practical requirements.
This competency-based course aligns with the International Cricket Council’s strategic vision of empowering ICC Members to develop their own workforce while also inspiring participants to pursue cricket and realize their full potential. The program will conclude tomorrow with closing remarks from Mr. Rob Gomm, the Development Manager for the East Asia Pacific region.
