THE FUTURE LOOKS BRIGHT FOR CRICKET FIJI

Going into the U19 Cricket EAP World Cup Qualifier without any pressure or expectations, the national team delivered an impressive performance against the best in the region.

The national side have performed above and beyond expectations and for them to be seeded # 1 in the Pacific Region is a bonus for Cricket Fiji, and this will have rippling impacts not only in the International level but also and most importantly in the domestic arena. The performance of the team is a testament of the Development Pathway that is in place, and this is in line with Cricket Fiji’s Strategic Plan of 2022 – 2026, as we endeavor to grow the sport locally, and to produce results internationally. Majority of the team were picked out of the Fiji Secondary Schools Cricket Competition in 2022, and the rest were from the Maritime Associations that had participated in the annual 2023 Easter Cricket Championship. Given the leadership of Coach Iniasi Cakacaka & Manager Taniela Naulivou, the team have prepared very well for the tournament and the only challenge for them was getting acclimatized to playing on turf grounds. There have been a lot of learnings and challengers faced by the team but this will surely benefit Cricket Fiji as a whole in the future.
