Captain of the womens national side Vulisere Waqavakatoga was awarded the player of the match in their first game against Samoa yesterday.
Fiji is competing for a place in the East Asia Pacific T20 World Cup Qualifier, that is currently being played in Vanuatu; and teams vying for a place in the next leg of qualification are Papua New Gunea, Vanuatu, Samoa, Japan, Indonesia, Cook Islands and Fiji.
Fiji’s first and only game for the week was against Samoa yesterday, as they won by 18 runs. Player of the match was awarded to the newly appointed Captain of the team Vulisere Waqavakatoga. This was her first international game to lead the national side and she proved to be the X-Factor for the team scoring 43 runs.
Team Manager, Mrs. Luisa Vodonaivalu has said that they will take each game at a time, but there is still a lot to improve on before they meet the likes of PNG & Vanuatu. Fiji’s next game will against Japan on Monday [04/09/2023] @ 2pm and you can watch it live on www.icctv.com.
