High Commissioner of India Hands Over Cricket Equipment

Today marks a significant occasion as His Excellency Palaniswamy Karthigeyan, the High Commissioner of India handed over a set of cricket equipment each to the Lakeba and Moce Cricket Associations. In his address during the handover ceremony, His Excellency Karthigeyan emphasized the significance of this gesture, viewing it as a vital form of support for grassroots cricket and an ideal way to commemorate the enduring friendship between the two nations. This event also marks the commencement of the Friendship Festival, a celebration dedicated to honouring the 75-year-long diplomatic ties between Fiji and India.

The High Commissioner expressed his confidence that this gesture will signify the initiation of a meaningful association between the High Commission and Cricket Fiji. He extends his sincere hope that Cricket Fiji will build on this collaborative foundation for the betterment of the sport.

Acknowledging the generous donation, Ratu Meli Saubulinayau, the Chairman of Cricket Fiji, commended the initiative to support grassroots cricket development. It reflects the High Commission’s commitment to promoting the sport at its foundation and ensuring that aspiring cricketers in Fiji have the necessary tools and resources to pursue their passion. He added that this gesture goes beyond the boundaries of the cricket field; it symbolizes a shared commitment to community, collaboration and the spirit of goodwill between the two nations.

In expressing his gratitude, Chairman Saubulinayau highlighted that today’s occasion extends beyond the simple receipt of equipment; it is about empowering our young talents, instilling values of sportsmanship and creating a legacy that will inspire generations to come.

Representatives from the Lakeba and Moce Cricket Associations were also present to witness and gratefully receive the cricket equipment from the Indian High Commission.
